Somehow, we’re here in the last week of July and I’m torn between being in complete of awe of all the things that we’ve done with the kids, and the fact that it’s. almost. the. end. of. July. Which ever camp you’re in, we’ve got you covered when it comes to things to do with the kids this weekend in Calgary.
Here’s what to do this weekend with the kids:
Explore Milky Way Nights
See astronomers in their natural habitat, under dark moonless skies. Late night public observing is a unique opportunity to see deep sky objects such as planetary nebula and globular clusters.
Outdoor Movie: Isle of Dogs
The Beltline Neighbourhoods Association is pleased to announce a special free screening of Wes Anderson’s Isle of Dogs presented by The Underwood this July 26, 2019 at Central Memorial Park. This FREE, FAMILY FRIENDLY event will feature live DJs, outdoor Inner City Brewing Company beer garden, plus hot dogs and poutine from the Dogfather. Bring your friends, family, and a blanket to roll out on the grass and take in an evening of cinema under the stars!
Chestermere Water Festival
July 27 is Water Festival! Come down to John Peake Park for games, markets, food trucks, live music and, the annual wakeboard competition. It’s a great way to spend your Saturday! This year, we have the Dirt Road Angels as our headliner for our Summer Showcase! These ‘Soul Sisters’ have realized three albums and eight singles to the Canadian Charts since their conception in 2013. They will be playing the pavilion at 9 p.m.
Springbank Air Show
The thunderous roar of formation-flying jets screaming across the Springbank sky will officially return this summer. The Canadian Forces’ Snowbirds, a nine-plane demonstration team, will mark their fourth appearance at the Wings Over Springbank Airshow.
Central Library Bridgefest
The Calgary Bridge Foundation for Youth (CBFY) invites you, your family and friends to come out this summer and celebrate diversity with us at BridgeFest! Immerse yourselves in live cultural performances and visit interactive booths. This is an exciting opportunity for you to learn about different cultures and enjoy fun outdoor activities. We would love to have you join in the fun!
Medieval Day in Cochrane
Hear ye! Hear ye! It’s our fourth annual Medieval Day and we want YOU to make it our best year ever! Come one down for some amazing free entertainment including knight and viking battles, living history villages, mythical storytelling, magic shows aplenty, dance lessons, music, and so much more!
Pop up Mobile Skate Park
What will you find at the skate parks? At the parks, you’ll find roll-ins, fun boxes with rails, pyramids with rails, grind boxes, quarter pipes, wall rides and half pipes. Kids can come to the skate park, and practice or take part in the local competitions, all summer long. With twenty locations around Calgary, you’ll be able to check out a new pop up skate park experience, every week during the summer.
Open Aircraft Day at the Hangar Museum
The number 1 wish we hear from our visitors is that they would like to sit inside one of our historical aircraft. We listened, and now’s your chance! From June 22-September 2 inclusive, we’ll have Open Aircraft Days on Saturdays and Sundays and holiday Mondays. We’ll also have knowledgeable staff and volunteers available to answer your questions. Trust us, you’re going to want to purchase a Museum membership so that you can come back for each plane!
