From a mobile skate park, to a drop in fishing event, and outdoor movies that give you a reason to stay up late. We’ve got you covered for all of your summer fun needs for the whole family in Calgary.
Here’s what to do this Weekend in Calgary with Kids
Marsh Dipping at Bow Habitat Station
Investigate what lies beyond the cattails of the marshes! Armed with nets and buckets, prepare to get a bit muddy as we search for and identify the critters who make their home in our wetlands. This programmer-led activity is a great opportunity to dive deeper and learn about the often-missed critters who make their home in our wetlands.
Check out a Mobile Skatepark
The City of Calgary’s free mobile skateparks are open to in-line skaters, skateboarders, and scooter users of all ages.
Watch ‘Wonder Park’ Outdoors
What could be better than a great movie on the big screen outdoors? Head on down early and enjoy a variety of games and activities for the whole family! Please bring your own chair, blanket and movie snacks. RSVP is not required as this event is held outdoors.
Discover Inglewood Little Libraries
We’re issuing a challenge- to become a Well-Travelled Reader this summer! Calgary Reads is proud to support a network of Free Little Library owners in Inglewood. Download our FREE MAP featuring the Little Free Libraries of Inglewood and follow on bike or foot to discover them all! Prizes available.
Last Call $3 Swim at Village Leisure Centre
There’s a new reason to stay up late! Get $3 off of your admission with last call at Village Square Leisure Centre on Friday nights. If you show up to swim between 9:00 and 10:00 pm, you’ll get $3 off of your admission costs.
Mad Science Craft Workshop
This workshop is a great opportunity to show to your preschooler (3-5 yrs old) how sensitive their fingertips are by experiencing how difficult is to identify objects when different senses are dulled. You will also make Mad Science Silly Putty and feel what it is to mold different shapes in hands.
Explore Open Studio at Telus Spark
Open Studio is where you can take creative risks, question assumptions and explore new ways of thinking by building and combining unexpected materials. At Open Studio, you can: digitally paint with light, create the ultimate outfit using recycled materials, compose a musical symphony with colour.
Tween and Teen Night at InjaNation
Individuals will get a chance to try out PlayStation VR game Beat Saber! The game involves slashing boxes as they appear to the sound of a beat. The top person will be crowned the VR King. Limited spots available; first come first served
Reptile Mania at Cobbs Adventure Park
Come on down to Cobb’s August 10 & 11 for a Reptile Weekend! All our reptiles will be out for you to meet: Molly the Green Iguana, Sissie the Bearded Dragon, Jackie & Diane the Leopard Geckos, Syd, Floyd & Brittany the Ball Pythons, George the Carpet Python, Tarzan & Jane the Corn Snakes, Erza Scarlet the Red-Tailed Boa! And our special guests, Calgary Reptile Parties, will be here too with a bunch more reptiles and highly entertaining and educational shows by Jason from Animal Planet’s Scaled!
Watch Aladdin Outdoors
Your wish is our command – we’re bringing back summer movie night at St. Patrick’s Island! It’ll feel like a whole new world on August 10 as you sit under a blanket of stars for Aladdin (2019). Showtime is 9:15pm, but it’s best to arrive early to secure your spot on The Rise, a 9-metre-high natural amphitheatre at the center of the island. The steep slope of The Rise doesn’t work so well with chairs, so it’s best to bring your magic carpet to sit on. We also recommend bringing some bug spray to keep the critters at bay.
Take an Art Adventure
Teaching kids the skills for using acrylic paint and how to have fun with it in a safe and creative environment. They will learn the basic foundational rules to painting which will help them become successful in the future with acrylic painting. The class will be set up as a paint along, so students will be given a reference where we, all together, learn to paint it!
