In the winter, tobogganing and sledding on the hills of Calgary is a fun way to get out and enjoy winter. It doesn’t cost a thing, and the entire family can have a fun adventure on the hill. If you’ve got children, we’re sharing our favourite hills for tobogganing in Calgary with kids.
St. Andrew’s Hill
Park at St. Andrew’s Heights community hall and get ready to have fun on this long hill perfect for kids of all sledding abilities (as long as they’re willing to make the long way back up to the top)
Find the hill: 2504 13 Ave. N.W.
A hit with younger kids, the hill isn’t too steep so there’s going to be lots of room for the little kids to walk up the hill at their leisure. Bonus? It’s a short walk from the parking lot for little legs (or the parents that are hauling them in their sleds)
Find the hill: 2807 10 St. N.W.
Glendale is our top choice if you’re sledding with children of all ages. There are varying hills around, allowing you to keep an eye on everyone, but also to keep sledders of different ages having fun on the family toboggan trip.
Find the hill: 2225 45 St. S.W.
Prairie Winds Park
A hit with older kids, or kids that want to sled where planes feel close, you’re going to want to come here if you’re in the mood for a thrilling ride. The steep hill can be difficult to climb for younger children.
Find the hill: 223 Castleridge Blvd. N.E.
Royal Oak is a fast favourite for families because of the nice slopes, perfect for young children, but still exciting enough for kids under ten. Kids can easily make it back up to the top with the sled in tow, where you are rewarded with fantastic 360-degree views of the city.
Find the hill: 9100 Royal Birch Blvd. N.W.
Remember: Calgary has a bylaw that allows tobogganing/sledding only on the 22 designated hills within the city. To avoid the $100 fine, stay on the hills found here.
