A Walk Down Kensington Alley | Daily
Kensington Alley is one of 14 sites across Beakerhead Snakes and Ladders; a larger-than-life adventure across multiple engineered experiences and artworks connected by a common theme: the ups and downs of invention. Each site will have a sign and board game tile – where you’ll get to choose your own navigational adventure!
Experience Nucleation | September 13
5,000 white balloons are spilling out of the building as if some sort of cartoonish experiment went awry inside. No lab coats or goggles required, though. Word has it there may be bubbles for the taking every day when the clock strikes three.
Experience a Mars Habitat | September 13
Welcome to Persephone Smith-Johansson’s human habitat. It’s a showhome. On Mars. Persephone was sent to the remote planet to oversee the construction of the first Martian colony. The construction schedule is delayed though, by 75 years, and there’s still just the one condo unit. Persephone has learned that sometimes being “first” is not all it is cracked up to be. Step through the decontamination chamber and into her story, brought to you by a multidisciplinary collaboration led by Loft 112.
Beakernight Street Party | September 15
The dark comes to life with multiple installations, experiences, and performances spread out across Fort Calgary and the River Walk. Warm up beside Serpent Mother’s 20-foot tall towers of fire, grab a chemical cocktail at the Beakerbar. Bask in the glow of innumerable twinkling lights, discover a sea mammal of magnificent proportion, and join together around the Rings of Reconciliation.
Monstrous Adventure Playground | Varies
Build Your Own Play Place! If kids designed playgrounds, the end result would be delightfully chaotic – and maybe a tad risky. Turns out, that’s a good thing! Adventure playgrounds are dynamic spaces where children can explore, create, imagine and learn in their own way with a variety of materials and loose parts that children are free to use to build, demolish, assemble and change as they desire.
