Calgary Dragon Boat Race and Festival 
When: August 12/13
In 2016, the Calgary Dragon Boat Society celebrated the 25th Anniversary of Dragon Boating in the community of Calgary. The Calgary Dragon Boat Race & Festival is geared towards creating an unforgettable experience. The dragon boat competition illustrates comradery, teamwork and inspiration. Stemmed by a 2000-year-old Chinese legend, Dragon Boat Racing is still very active and remains a tradition to this day.

Marda Gras
When: August 13
Come and enjoy live music, dance and cultural performances, a fun kids area, unique shopping and lots of great food! There is something for each member of the family and best of all it’s no charge to attend! Marda Gras is a FREE family-friendly event attracts over 35,000 visitors from all over Calgary. On Sunday August 13th, 2017 the streets of Marda Loop celebrate the festival’s 33rd year in the community.

GlobalFest 
When: August 15-26
The groundwork for GlobalFest began in 1993 with the formation of The Calgary Fireworks Festival Society. The not-for-profit Society searched for a suitable fireworks launch site in Calgary for eight years to no avail. There were many potential sites, but none combined the suitable large viewing area, safety regulations, and ability to allow large-scale pyrotechnics to be launched. It wasn’t until 2001 when the Society discovered Elliston Park in Calgary’s Greater Forest Lawn district that the dream could now become reality.
