Hitting up the Toboggan Hill | We’ve rounded up twenty of our favourite places for the kids to hit up the toboggan hill in Calgary, whether you’re on sleds, on tubes or want to explore winter.
Getting out of Town | Canmore, Banff – both are close enough that you can get out of town and experience winter adventures, festivals and experiences.
Snow Tubing | The Olympic Park opened up snow tubing for the season and it’s become one of the must-do things in Calgary through the winter. Suitable for children with their parents, it’s an affordable activity that will get the kids excited about getting outside!
Warming up with Hot Chocolate | Warm up with hot chocolate during the YYC Hot Chocolate Festival, in February. Hit up some of your favourite places in town, and discover a new place, with delicious creations all month long.
Fort Calgary Winterfest | Join us for a day of family activities including a Quebecois sugar shack, traditional Blackfoot winter stories, a dreamcatcher making workshop, Mountie uniform try-on, a kids’ historical play in the theatre, and various kids’ games and learning activities throughout the day. Activities are scheduled from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm. A lunch service will be available upstairs from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm (February 20, 2017)
Skating at Prince’s Island Park | Cross-country skiing (seasonal) and outdoor skating on the Lagoon are two of the most popular things to do during the winter in Calgary. Sharpen up those skates and get out to explore the park during a winter landscape.
Walk with Penguins at the Zoo | Starting January 2017, you can have a gander at the King Penguins as they walk through the zoo, during this daily event. It’s a great reason to explore the zoo during the winter months, and see the animals enjoying winter!
Canmore Winter Carnival | The Canmore Winter Carnival is back for another year with free celebrations and events. The carnival will include the International Biathlon Union Cup Races, Xterra Triathlon and Chandra Crawford’s Fast and Female. Ski and dog sled race events will take place on a snow covered Main Street and the public are also invited to bring their cross country skis to enjoy the set ski track on Main Street. Street hockey, ice carving, log sawing, and snow sculpting events will all take place in downtown Canmore throughout the carnival
